Palmer, AK to Beaver Creek Yukon, Canada

OKKK - we're heading HOME!!

We left the RV park in Palmer and no sooner got on the road and Mr. Moose came walking down it!  Stopped traffic for a few minutes then he just slowly went down into the woods.

And yes the clouds where still low.

This is the Malanuska Glacier - it is 4 miles wide and they say it is the largest glacier accessible by vehicle.  We didn't venture in since the road was not m/h "friendly".

Wayne these are for you - your Dad thought you'd enjoy them - can you imagine driving these huge things!!  It's so common up here and believe me you know when they pass you.

And it wouldn't be a normal day unless you had a "follow me" car to take you thru road construction.

Couple pictures of the permafrost - can you see the curvy white line?? Will said you could always tell how bad they were by the black marks - that's the tow car braking system - when it hits a bump it applies the brakes!  Ours doesn't cause we have a good one! (that's what he told me anyway)

We decided to "dry camp" on the way to Tok.   This was a beautiful site - there is really a beautiful snow covered mountain in the back ground and down below are 3 lakes - really pretty.

While we were "relaxing" a truck pulled up.  This girl from Ohio (4 months pregnant) and her friend (boy) said they were hearing a funny noise and didn't know if it was the truck or the road  and wanted to know if we were hearing anything unusual.   We said no - so they climbed (yes her too) under the truck.  It seems a bolt fell out of the carriage bearing on the drive line (Will says) causing the thumping noise they heard.  So Mr. Fixit with all his tools got underneath with them and they fixed it.  She said she could not believe that they stopped at a rest area and found someone who had a Lowe's store in their storage compartment!!  Anyway, she opened the back to the truck and this is what was in it!!!! She says she uses used vegetable oil from restaurants ($2.00/gallon) - she filters it and that's what her truck runs on - straight vegetable oil.   She said she had not bought any diesel at all on her trip - and she was on her way back home like us. Very interesting couple.

As you're going down the road (on both sides) in Alaska and Canada you see all these beautiful pink/purple flowers that they call Fireweed.  When we were talking to Vickey she said to make sure I bought some Fireweed Honey when we were in Seward that it was unlike any other honey. I bought some and wow, she was right !! The Native American people use it for many things - medicine - good source of vitamin C they say etc.  Anyway, it is delicious honey.

OK tomorrow we start back thru the Yukon and BC - fun fun fun.
