Homer to Seward, Alaska

Here are a few pictures on our trip to Seward - these pictures don't really do the scenery justice - the depth - the color - it's just magnificent.

This is what we see from our front window at the RV park. This is Resurrection Bay - a year around ice free harbor which makes it an important cargo, fishing port and the cruise ships also come in here. Our cruise of 2 years ago sailed into here.

This is what we see behind us - this mountain is Mount Marathon. Every July 4th they have an endurance race to the top (3,022 feet) and back down.  The descent is so steep that it's part run, part jump, and part slide. It seems this started in 1912 or 1915 (no one is certain)  out of bar bet (2 guys with big ego's and a couple beers no doubt)  wagered whether it could be climbed in under a hour and a legend was born.  The fastest recorded time is 43 minutes, 23 seconds set in 1981.  This race is the second oldest footrace in America - thousands participate each year - entries are limited and fill up months in advance.  Chris & Hondo here's your challenge!! lol

These eagles fly around all the time.

                                                                     So so beautiful!!

AND here's why we have such a beautiful view!  We met Danny & Darlene and their four legged kids - Hoodie and Conan over in Homer (he's the big puppy (Akita)  in the window from before) and they were nice enough and saved a front row spot for us in Seward which we really appreciated.  Really really nice couple who live in Eagle River Alaska and knew all the history and ins and outs about the place which was really nice and also made a great camp fire!!
